Skies

How our AI works

Chat answers Bible questions with AI. Here is how it works, how it is designed to respond, and what happens to your words.

What happens when you ask

  1. You type a question. Before anything leaves your phone the first time, Skies asks your permission.
  2. Your question goes through our server to an OpenAI model, together with Bible passages that fit it.
  3. The model writes a short answer and lists the passages it rests on.
  4. Chat uses OpenAI to generate answers and automated checks to review them. Some answers also receive a separate AI review. These checks can miss mistakes; read the cited passages when accuracy matters.
  5. You see the answer with its passages. Tap any passage to read it in its chapter.

How Chat is designed to respond

  • Chat is designed not to impersonate God, Jesus, a pastor or another person.
  • It is designed not to promise healing, money or a particular outcome. It can still make mistakes.
  • Where Christians disagree, Chat explains the relevant views and sources. On same-sex marriage and gender identity, it presents historic Christian teaching and names the affirming reading as a minority view among evangelicals.
  • When it recognises that you may be in danger, it stops and shows urgent help (in the US, 911 for emergencies, call or text 988 for suicide or emotional crisis). It can miss the signs and nobody watches the app, so if you need help, call yourself; the help button on Today is always there.

It can still be wrong

AI makes mistakes, even with checks. That is why the passages are always shown: read them in their chapter, and take important questions to someone you trust. If an answer looks wrong, email the passage and what you saw to support@mahinalabs.com and we will check it.

Your words

After you give permission, Chat sends your current message and up to four recent completed exchanges from this chat through Cloudflare to OpenAI, including when you resume a saved chat. Earlier messages and answers are shortened, and the earlier history sent with a request is limited to 6,000 characters. Our server also receives a random Chat ID, used only to count a daily fair-use limit and never passed to OpenAI. We don’t sell your words or use them for advertising. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

Narration

Bible chapters in the Berean Standard Bible are read by a human narrator, Bob Souer (dedicated to the public domain). The voices for Today, prayers, Sleep readings and meditations are AI narration, made with ElevenLabs in two approved voices, and labelled “AI narration” in the player. They are recorded in advance and checked, not made up on the spot.
