How to use these prayers

Pick the one closest to where you are. Read the passage first, slowly. Then pray the prayer aloud or under your breath, and stay with any line that catches you. Change the words to fit your life: add a name, a place, the thing you are carrying.

Jesus taught his friends “to pray at all times and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1). Prayer doesn’t need special words, and it doesn’t need to be long. It needs to be honest.

Scripture behind this prayer

Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray at all times and not lose heart:

Questions people ask

Can I use these prayers in church or with my family?

Yes. Pray them alone, with your family or in a small group. They are written to be read aloud.

Do I have to pray these exact words?

No. They are a place to begin. God hears the words you have, and the silence when you have none.
