Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!

Lamentations 3:22–23

A morning prayer gives the new day to God before anything else claims it. Thank him that his mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23), bring him the day ahead and the people in it, and ask for his help to love well. One minute is enough to begin.

Pray

Faithful God, your mercies are new this morning. Thank you for this day, and for the breath to begin it.

I give you what is ahead: the work, the conversations, the worries I woke up with. Go before me. Help me to listen more than I speak, to be patient where I am usually hurried, and to see the people you put in my way.

Whatever this day holds, keep me close to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Make mornings a habit

  • Pray before your phone. Leave it on the other side of the room and give God the first minute.
  • Keep it short. One verse and one honest prayer is a real morning prayer.
  • Tie it to something you already do, like the first coffee or opening the curtains.
  • Name one person you will see today and pray for them by name.

Scripture behind this prayer

Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. Attend to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I lay my plea before You and wait in expectation.

Psalm 5:1–3

A line to pray as you get out of bed.

This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24
