Prayer
A prayer for protection
A prayer for God’s protection over you and the people you love, drawn from Psalm 91 and Psalm 121.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly plague. He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:1–4
Psalm 91 and Psalm 121 are the Bible’s great prayers for protection: God is “my refuge and my fortress” (Psalm 91:2), and “The LORD will watch over your coming and going” (Psalm 121:8). A prayer for protection asks God to keep us and those we love, and rests in him whatever happens.
Pray
Lord, you are my refuge and my fortress. I trust you.
Cover me and the people I love: [names]. Guard our going out and our coming in today, on the roads, at work, at school and at home. Keep us from harm, and from the fear of harm.
Whatever happens, nothing can take us out of your hands. Amen.
What these psalms promise
Psalm 91 is a song of trust, not a guarantee that nothing bad will ever happen to believers. Jesus refused to use its words as a dare (Matthew 4:5–7). Its promise is deeper: whatever comes, God is a shelter we can run to, and he is with us in trouble (Psalm 91:15).
Scripture behind this prayer
The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:7–8
